What is the Budd:e E-security Education Package?

The Budd:e E-security Education Package is a series of media-rich learning activities developed for Australian primary and secondary schools. It is designed to help raise students e-security awareness so they can stay smart online.

The package comprises two learning modules - one for Primary (Year 3) and one for Secondary (Year 9) students.

The modules are consistent with the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA) Statements of Learning for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Who developed Budd:e?

The modules were developed by the Australian Government as part of its responsive measures to educate all Australians on e-security issues.

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy managed the development of the modules in collaboration with a range of other Government departments and agencies, key education and industry bodies, and subject matter experts.

Do I need to install anything on my computer to access Budd:e?

Sound is used throughout the site. To get the most out of Budd:e ensure your computer speakers are connected and turned on.

What type of internet connection do I need?

The modules have been built to cater for the varying information and communication technologies used across school and home environments. If you have ADSL 2 or broadband internet access the online modules should function well.

If you use dial-up or don't have internet access, the modules can be ordered for free on CD-ROM.

You can use the Budd:e online order form to receive a free CD-ROM version of the E-security Education Package.

Can I access Budd:e using a screen reader?

What should I do if I'm experiencing technical problems?

What should I do if I'm experiencing sound problems?

Some versions of Flash Player (including some iterations of Flash Player 10), have some problems with playing sounds. If the sound effects in the modules are delayed or playing out of synch, This link will take you off the Stay Smart Online websiteupdate your Flash Player to the latest version.

Does Budd:e capture my personal information?

The Primary and Secondary modules contain a log-in process for people who don't want to complete the whole module in one sitting but want their progress to be saved so they can continue from where they left off the next time they log in.

You are asked to select a user name, password and a secret question/answer combination. Budd:e does not ask for email addresses or any other personal information. For this reason, if you forget your user name and password, and your secret question/answer combination, there is no way to retrieve your details so you will have to start from the beginning.

The Primary module has a demo alternative which contains all functionality of the full version except that it does not retain your progress if you exit the screen. You can access the demo version from the Primary Budd:e main screen.
