National Cybersecurity Awareness Week is an Australian Government initiative, held annually in partnership with industry, community and consumer groups and state and territory governments.

Internet service providers sign up to icode

The ISP cyber security code of practice, the icode, officially commenced on 1 December 2010. The icode promotes a better cyber security culture within Australian ISPs and improves cyber security for all Australians.

It provides a consistent approach for Australian ISPs to help educate and inform customers in relation to cyber security.

The icode also adds to existing educational efforts, such as the ACMA’s Australian Internet Security Initiative, to combat the growth in zombie PCs.

The icode was developed by the Internet Industry Association (IIA) in conjunction with the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy and the Attorney-General’s Department.

The new voluntary code was launched by the IIA, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy and the Federal Attorney-General, Robert McClelland at the start of the 2010 National Cyber Security Awareness week on 6 June 2010.

The icode is available for download from the IIA’s website.
