E-Security review

A review is currently being conducted into the Australian Government's e-security policy, programs and capabilities.

It will help develop a new Australian Government E-Security Framework to create a secure and trusted electronic environment for both public and private sectors.

The Attorney-General's Department is leading the review, assisted by other agencies including the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Further information about the review can be found at www.ag.gov.au/esecurityreview

National E-security Awareness Week

National E-security Awareness Week 2008 was held from 6-13 June 2008 to help raise awareness about e-security for home and business users.

As part of the Week, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy announced the Stay Smart Online Alert Service and a Small Business Tool.

We would like to thank a number of industry and community partners and all those involved for their support and interest in the 2008 Awareness Week.

The free promotional materials used during the Week are still available for download.

  • The Stay Smart Online Alert Service is a free subscription based service. You can subscribe to the new service through the Stay Smart Online website and receive information on the latest e-security threats, vulnerabilities and advice on how to manage them. We encourage you to sign up to receive this free service to help keep up to date and protect your computer.
  • The Small Business Tool can be accessed to help small businesses understand and improve online security practices. We encourage all small businesses, including home based, to use the assessment tool. It takes 10–15 minutes to complete and will provide some easy tips to stay protected when online.
