Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy
The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy provides strategic advice and professional support to the Australian Government on a wide range of significant and rapidly changing policy areas such as arts and culture, broadcasting and online regulation, information and communications technology, information economy and telecommunications. The Department also administers legislation, regulations, grants, and incentives to industry and the wider community.
Attorney General's Department (AGD)
The Attorney-General's Department serves the people of Australia by providing essential expert support to the Government in the maintenance and improvement of Australia's system of law and justice. The Department is the central policy and coordinating element of the portfolio, for which the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Customs are responsible.
Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is responsible for the regulation of broadcasting, radiocommunications, telecommunications and online content. ACMA's responsibilities include promoting self-regulation and competition in the telecommunications industry, fostering an environment in which electronic media respects community standards and responds to audience and user needs, managing access to the radiofrequency spectrum, including the broadcasting services bands and representing Australia's communications and broadcasting interests internationally.
Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC)
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission promotes competition and fair trade in the market place to benefit consumers, business and the community. It also regulates national infrastructure services. Its primary responsibility is to ensure that individuals and businesses comply with the Commonwealth competition, fair trading and consumer protection laws.
ScamWatch is the consumer scam information website of the Australian Consumer Fraud Taskforce. It is a comprehensive site providing information on several types of scams, schemes and fraud. It also provides the facility for reporting scams.
Australian High Tech Crime Centre (AHTCC)
The Australian High Tech Crime Centre provides a national coordinated approach to combating serious, complex and multi-jurisdictional high tech crimes, especially those beyond the capability of single jurisdictions. They assist in improving the capacity to deal with high tech crime and support efforts to protect the National Information Infrastructure. The AHTCC fulfils this role through functions such as co-ordination of high tech crime matters between Australian law enforcement, Australian Government and international agencies; investigation of serious and complex matters either by the AHTCC or through co-operation or referral to a partner agency and intelligence services that contribute to a better understanding of the high tech crime environment. This agency also provides advice relating to high tech crime issues such as preventative measures, best practice investigative tools and techniques, expert advice, training and education.
Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission enforces and regulates company and financial services laws to protect consumers, investors and creditors.
FIDO is the consumer website of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. ASIC is the consumer protection regulator for financial services. In this role, they protect investors, superannuants, depositors and insurance policy holders. They also regulate and enforce laws that promote honesty and fairness in financial products and services, in financial markets, and in Australian companies.
Net Alert was established by the Australian Government as Australia's Internet Safety Advisory Body. Net Alert offers practical advice on Internet safety, parental control and filters for the protection of children, students and families.
Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
The Australian Taxation Office is the Government's principal revenue collection agency, and is part of the Treasurer's portfolio. Their role is to manage and shape tax, excise and superannuation systems that fund services for Australians.
Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC)
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner is an independent Office which has responsibilities under the Federal Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).The Act provides protection for personal information that is handled by federal and ACT government agencies, personal information held by all large private sector organisations, all private sector health service providers and some small businesses, credit worthiness information held by credit reporting agencies and credit providers and personal tax file numbers used by individuals and organisations.
